Item Description
19x33" paper sign w/tin scrolls. c. 1900s. Dark haired beauty shows popular tropes from a fascination with the "Far East". She wears satin suggestively draped w/jewelry made of coins and stands bare foot on an Oriental carpet that actually repeats on the tobacco tin. Every detail designed to appear exotic and wild, to set Royal's tobacco apart. The result is moody and sultry, a beautiful piece of late Victorian advertising. Cracks and tears have been stabilized on reverse w/old tape. Trivial color fill. Fine. Fred Hoffman Collection.
