Item Description
8.5" long inc. hanger and metallic fringe. J. H. Shaw stamped on reverse. Albumen portrait w/text "Grand Old Party For President" above and "James G. Blaine Minneapolis 1892" below. Ribbon is crisp w/overall light wear to gold text and minor handling. Still Exc. Blaine had resigned as Harrison's Secretary of State on the eve of the Minnesota convention and his name was submitted on the first ballot. While he was able to garner 182 votes he fell short of Harrison's 535. Blaine's candidacy was pushed in part due to the tremendous congressional defeats suffered by Republicans in 1890. Though Harrison was able to remain the nominee he would lose the fall election. A nice example of this 1892 hopeful badge.
