Item Description
6" long w/union bug at bottom. He was the owner and publisher of both the Washington Post and the Cincinnati Inquirer. McLean was also co-owner of the Cincinnati Red Stockings professional baseball team, now the Reds. He was active in Democratic politics and was a delegate at the 1884-1900 national party conventions. He was the Democratic nominee for Governor of Ohio in 1899 but was defeated. A few areas of thinness, most notably a diagonal area in the upper right corner, as well as another along left edge just left of Bryan's portrait. Ribbon is bright w/strong contrast. Fine. An interesting intersection of politics, media, and sports. John Hillhouse Collection.
