Item Description
8"long. Silk. Part of a ten day trip across the country in route to his inauguration, Lincoln's train stopped on February 21, 1861 in Philadelphia at the Kensington Station at 3:45 PM. A massive demonstration greeted the newly elected Rail Splitter President w/an estimated 100,000 onlookers lining the streets of his carriage's route to the Continental Hotel. The event was one of the largest in city history and concluded w/a speech from his hotel balcony. It's thought that this ribbon was distributed in conjunction w/formal evening events at the hotel. Scattered moisture in lower field blending evenly. Handling wear from limited use. VF. Gold lettering remains completely intact making this among the finest examples we have encountered in our 57 years.
