Item Description
Neal Dow was a Brigadier General in the Union Army during the Civil War and served from 1861-1864. He was a staunch abolitionist as well as an early temperance leader and has been nicknamed the "Father of Prohibition." He co-founded the National Temperance Society and Publishing House with James Black in 1865 and was an early leader in the Prohibition Party. He was the party's presidential nominee in 1880. Letter is 5x8". Letter has age toning w/an edge tear along the top edge in center. Fine. Also included is portrait CDV. 2.5x3.75". Dated 1853. CDV features full body portrait of Dow in his military uniform. CDV has moderate handling and surface wear. Extremely Fine. Comes w/JSA COA.
