Item Description
1.75" w/W&H back paper along w/curl text "Copyright 1899." In addition, the front edge at 8 o'clock carries artist name of C.A. David. Wonderful design of elated Spanish-American-Cuban War soldier shedding his hat, jacket, pants, suspenders and shoes- leaving only his long johns and one red striped sock. This is the photo example (and only known example) from Button Power by Carter and Hake shown on page 175. However, when book was done, the year of 1898 was assigned and only recently saw the 1899 curl copyright. This button goes back to the Joe Stone Collection acquired in 1975 and upon which the 1986 book Collectible Pin-Back Buttons 1896-1898 was based. NM.
