Item Description
46.5x53.5" frame w/40.25x47" single sided cotton banner. Bold text w/striking green color having an almost watercolor effect on candidate's names. This ties nicely w/the green leaves and red blooms on the floral motif border. Edge tatters, losses and age throughout. Professionally cleaned and mounted to fabric backing for stability w/scattered restoration including limited inpainting. VG. A remarkable survivor considering the untold travels during its over 168 years of existence. Collins Threads of History lists five Fremont banners (w/all but one in institutional collections) and we have encountered four others over the last 57 years. All pre-Civil War political campaign textiles are extremely scarce and Fremont material is notably so. This unquestionably unique banner has oodles of charm and is framed beautifully behind TruVue acrylic plexi that blocks 99% of UV rays, making for an immediate level up of your collection room display. A special opportunity to obtain an impressive banner featuring the first Republican Presidential candidate.
