Item Description
The Comics Code Authority was formed in 1954 by the Comics Magazine Association of America as an alternative to government regulation. The Comics Code enabled comic publishers to self-regulate comic book content following a moral panic centered around a series of Senate hearings and the publication of psychiatrist Fredric Wertham's book Seduction Of The Innocent, severely limiting and ultimately ending horror and crime comics of the 1950s. Offered here is 6.5x9.5" envelope w/"Code Authority - Comics Magazine Association of America, Inc." return address and typed mailing label. Envelope contains folder marked "Code Of The Comics Magazine Association of America, Inc." w/glossy pages laying out the guidelines of the Code. Also comes w/seven pamphlets, w/titles including - "Judge Charles F. Murphy - Code Administrator, Facts About The Comics Code, The Comics And Juvenile Delinquency, On Dangerous Ground, Self-Regulation: The Real Solution, CMAA: Aims And Objectives, Typical Endorsements." Envelope shows expected wear from mailing and is Fine. Some penciling to cover of "Code" folder, which has loose pages and is Fine overall. Rest remain clean and Exc. Only complete example we've offered in or 57 years.
