Item Description
Kit No. 461-98. ©1963 Universal Pictures Co., Inc. This is an original first issue box. The model was based on the Lon Chaney 1923 silent movie. James Bama based the box art on the 1956 remake of the movie. Production of the original issue of the Hunchback box was halted in 1965 after objections were raised by actor Anthony Quinn, who complained the box art bore a definite likeness to his portrayal of the character in the 1956 film. The art was replaced w/modified art featuring the Hunchback w/shaggier hair (see next lot for second issue box). Box remains sealed w/just tiny edge nick to cellophane but no other tears/splits. Box has corner crease at top left corner (at bottom) and is o/w Exc. Factory-sealed w/unused contents. High grade example and as nice as these come. Janusey Brothers Collection.
