Item Description
15x18.25" layout bond has finished pencils that were transferred to canvas to create fully painted cover for the Hermes Press book "Phantom: The Gold Key Years HC Vol. 1". From the publisher: "The 1960s comic book adventures of The Phantom return in full, glorious color! Long out of print and in constant demand these classic Phantom stories are collected in two hard cover volumes. Volume One collects the first eight issues of the Gold Key comic book version of the granddaddy of costumed heroes, the Ghost Who Walks. Featuring cover art by famed painter George Wilson with interior artwork by Bill Lignante and stories by Bill Harris. Chock full of a extras, an in depth introduction by Phantom expert Ed Rhoades accompanied by rare original artwork. This printing will be limited to 1,000 copies." George Wilson (1921 - 1998) was a prolific comic book cover illustrator. He is known for his realistic style using oils and acrylics. Art has some edge wear/aging. A few tape remnants in margins. Heavy graphite pencil outlines on figure as this was used to transfer image. Signed at lower right corner. Displays Exc. Ed Rhoades Collection.
