Item Description
2-1/8" w/metal back and horizontal bar pin. Slogan at center "Support Student Sit-Ins." Three tiny indentations in between the "S" and the "T" in "Student" that detract little. Otherwise only light surface wear in reflected light. Extremely Fine. Issued shortly after 1960 when King was arrested by Alabama officials on two counts of felony perjury for signing fraudulent tax returns for 1956 and 1958. In response a group of King supporters met in Harry Belafonte's New York apartment to form this group and later ran an advertisement in the New York Times taking the position that King's arrest was an effort "To Destroy The One Man Who, More Than Any Other, Symbolizes The New Spirit Now Sweeping The South." The ad was signed by 84 supporters including Jackie Robinson and Eleanor Roosevelt.
