Item Description
While a Mary Marvel paper doll book was never published, it was in the works at one point during the 1940s. Offered here is a pair of 14.5x19.5" paper sheets, representing front and back covers of proposed paper doll book. Each cover image features large, full body doll image of Mary Marvel. Front cover depicts her in her classic superhero outfit and is surrounded by four different images of her in various civilian outfits. Back cover shows her in a more casual version of her superhero outfit, surrounded four different images of her in her classic superhero outfit. © Fawcett Publications, Inc. 1940s. Each has been folded into quarters and shows scattered handling wear w/creases along fold lines and back cover image has small split at fold crease intersection. Fine/VF. Comes w/full size mock-up of the proposed book, w/"Mary Marvel Doll Book - Body" written on front cover in pencil along w/various measurements. Book was to feature six single-sided pages of outfits to cut out for use w/doll figures (as shown on cover proofs). Each page has approx. 9.75x13.5" sheet w/printed color outfits/accessories to be cut out. Majority are generic, everyday outfits for young women of the era, but last sheet features Mary Marvel's superhero outfit. Book shows moderate aging/handling wear and has some scattered staining and pinch creases to spine. Pasted pages show staining from glue and there is some lifting w/three pages being loose.
