Item Description
2.25" litho w/"Supplied By J. Hugh Campbell Dallas Texas." In 1941 Congressman Johnson entered the Democratic primary for the US Senate seat campaigning heavily on his embrace of New Deal policies and issuing this button. While Johnson lost the primary in a nail biter, his star was only temporarily diminished and the rest is history. Roosevelt, speaking of LBJ, to his aide Harold Ickes is said to have stated that "In The Next Generation, The Balance Of Power Will Shift South And West And This Boy Could Well Be The First Southern President Since The Civil War." Slight fading on red and blue color w/scattered surface scratches and faint, trivial crazing on surface, as is typical of this design. Moderate overall wear. Fine. This is the only coattail we can recall that features such historical heavy hitters together. Rex & Patti Stark Collection.
