Item Description
10"dia. Dinner plate w/dramatic border showing fire pumpers (probably state-of-the-art equipment for the period) and eagles w/"Dec. 16 /1935" date below, separated by banners reading "Great Fire, City Of New York." One of three designs depicting the tragedy. The fire burned 17 city blocks, nearly 50 acres of territory, in lower Manhattan. Included among the hundred of buildings lost was the New York Stock Exchange dramatically depicted here. Damages were estimated at $20,000,000 in 1835 translating to over $700 million in 2025 money.
