Item Description
14x22" on cardboard w/"Washington" union bug at lower left. Image features Rev. Phillips and RFK shaking hands. Text at top reads "Vote May 7th For Sen. Robert F. Kennedy For President." At bottom Rev. Phillips, "Philip M. Stern," "Flaxie M. Pinkett" and "Mrs. Victor G. Reuther" are listed as National and Alternate Committeemen and Committeewomen respectively. Additional text at bottom "Representative Community Leaders For D.C. Progress/Vote Yes On All Party Questions/Kennedy C.U.P. Campaign Committee/1145 Connecticut Ave. N.W." Slight even aging w/some creasing, most notably along bottom edge. Moderate handling and surface wear. VF, will frame to display Extremely Fine. While Frederick Douglass received votes during the 1888 Republican National Convention his name was never formally placed in nomination making Rev. Phillips the first African American to be put in nomination for the presidency.
