2.25". No maker. Portraits of 22 team members. At bottom center is text "Grinnell 1914" over football image. The team went 2-5 this season. Age to metal back w/most silver luster gone. Front has moderate scattered surface wear mostly only seen in reflected light. Remains glossy, Fine. Rare and the only example we've offered in our 58 years. Paul Muchinsky Collection.
The Pioneers football team represents Grinnell College. Grinnell's football program started in 1889, when the Pioneers beat the University of Iowa 24-0. The game was held on November 16, 1889 in Grinnell and was the first game of intercollegiate football west of the Mississippi River, and therefore, Iowa. A stone marker still stands in Grinnell Field marking the event. The team's first head coach was Theron Lyman.
