Item Description
2" tall with embossed brass eagle and flag hanger with two rings below joining the loop on the frame of a 7/8" dia. brass rim surrounding close-up ferrotype portrait of Grant on one side and matching Colfax on the other side. On Colfax there is a 1/16" emulsion dot off the top edge and similar off his left cheek. Under magnification there is a bit of additional emulsion cracking on the upper part of his head and a 1/8" slightly blistered area over the corner of his left shoulder. All in all, image still looks intact and crisp with great detail. The Grant ferro is extremely fine with only trivial wear. Still a great deal of luster on the early brass hanger which we also have seen used to suspend a McClellan piece. Overall Fine but with the front hanger and ferro more VF. Rare.
