Item numbers 1 though 1052 in auction 192
Item Description
1" tall very high relief detailed portraits in moonstone of Harrison and Morton. Moonstone, a form of feldspar, was credited by ancients as enabling a person to foretell the future. Perhaps that was the concept behind the manufacture of a number of 1888 campaign lapel devices of moonstone that were produced for both candidates. DeWitt shows one on an original card titled "The Lucky Moonstone." This version is DeWitt/Sullivan 1888-56. Stone has silvered brass backing with lapel stud and a reverse marked "Fowler Bros. M'frs. Prov. R.I." Some loss of silver luster on reverse but front is Exc. Images give off a spectrum of soft rainbow-like pastel colors when moved around in light. Rare and front displays Mint.
