Item Description
1.25" shows enraged apple peddler beating his fallen horse with Angel of Mercy floating above holding sword in one hand and raising other hand to stop the brutality. We've seen 4 examples with 2 different imprints. This reads "S.F.S.P.C.A. Band Of Mercy." First we recall with this W&H backpaper c. 1900 with larger text "Membership Badge/Presented By The San Francisco Society Of Prevention Of Cruelty To Animals." Front extreme bottom edge has narrow .25" stain line. Rest of cello is super clean. Couple of tiny cello splits around collet but all lays tight. Among the earliest issues for this cause and superb graphics. See animal medicine items #546 and #602.
