Item Description
1.25" photographic version of the button, see next item for illustration version. Miller was ship's cook 3rd Class on the U.S.S. West Virginia at the time of the Pearl Harbor attack. Miller moved the wounded commander of the ship Captain Bennion to an area of greater safety and then took over a machine gun to down several Japanese aircraft. Miller became one of the first heroes of WWII and was cited for his bravery. Button includes tiny image of him at left manning anti-aircraft gun while at right is a presumably Japanese airplane. Light dust over the W&H backpaper. Cello has tiny bit of stain on reverse edges but front is totally clean and displays Mint. Scarce.
