Item Description
"Goofy's Glider" originally appeared in the April 1941 issue of Good Housekeeping. Good Housekeeping, in agreement w/Walt Disney, produced these one-page adaptations from 1934 to 1944 to promote their shorts. This is detailed in the book "Walt Disney's Mickey And The Gang Classic Stories In Verse" by Gemstone Publishing. The art is watercolor and ink on paper w/titles "Walt Disney's Goofy/Goofy's Glider" done in tempera paint. The art is done on two odd-shaped panels w/attractive and creative mat that enhances and ties the art together. Each panel is about 11x16". Art comes in an attractive gold wood frame w/plexiglas cover, overall size is 25x31.5". Goofy is depicted attempting to fly in his homemade "glider" although this crashes into the ground. He then crosses off the "Glider" name and replaces it w/"Boat." However, this instantly sinks. He then crosses off "Boat" and replaces it w/"Sub-Marine" and is shown happily traveling underwater and looking through a periscope as fish swim around him. Some very minor traces of aging are noticeable upon close inspection but art remains totally bright, clean and vibrant. Displays Exc. as framed, ready for display. Comes w/complete copy of the Good Housekeeping magazine that this art appeared in. Magazine has scattered cover wear. Cover is VG, contents are Exc. This art was originally part of an exhibit and subsequent auction in 1987 by The Alexander Gallery of New York. A very nice quality hardcover book was produced for the exhibit and a copy of that book also comes along w/art. Book is 8.5x11" and features a total of 65 pieces of Good Housekeeping art noting titles and original appearance dates. The art images are reproduced in full color and Goofy's Glider not only appears on one interior page but one of the illustrations from that story is also spotlighted on page opposite the title page. Includes auction notations throughout. Lt. cover wear. VF. We offered this same art in auction 191 with an opening bid of $7,500. The consignor has now decided to lower that opening to a an extremely conservative amount, making this the perfect opportunity to obtain a truly exceptional piece of this Good Housekeeping art.
