17x23.5" hardcover library volume collects issues of Alabama newspapers from May 1 - Jun. 30, 1918. Headlines of note include fall of Bolschevik Russia and the murder of Tsar Nicholas. Volume also contains US Navy recruitment page. "Photoplay" movie section contains photo of Charlie Chaplin in "A Dog's Life." Advertising of note includes various straw hat ads, Cracker Jack/Navy ad, Coca-Cola, Wrigley's Chewing Gum, Luzianne Coffee with stereotypical mammy, Calumet Baking Powder, Victrola, Al Jolson Columbia record "'N' Everything!," Lucky Strike cigarettes and various vintage car ads. WWI presence with Uncle Sam in doughboy helmet and toting machine gun, also appears in several editorial cartoons. Various Red Cross ads. Classic ad for "The Kaiser" an anti-German play with great caricature of Kaiser Wilhelm II. Scattered small tears and chips with staining and residue to some front pages. Mild moisture staining to a few pages. Cover has edge and corner tip wear. VG/Fine overall.
