Item Description
This historic Lone Ranger item is from the Sun., Sept. 11, 1938 issue of the Sunday Chicago Herald and Examiner. The 16.5x21.5" newspaper page features a full color poster-like image on one side while the reverse has various unrelated newspaper stories and columns including "Walter Winchell On Broadway." The image is titled at top "The Lone Ranger-Masked Idol Of Millions." The block of promotional text below makes the gala announcement that the Lone Ranger has come to America's Sunday comic pages and reads in full "A Fiery Horse With The Speed Of Light...A Cloud Of Dust And A Mysterious Lone Ranger Rides Again...Here He Is At Last...For The First Time In Any Newspaper...The Lone Ranger, Man Of Mystery, Masked Idol Of Millions, Modern Robin Hood, Hard Riding, Fast Shooting Hero Of Western Plains. Now Turn To The Comic Weekly Section Of This Edition And Follow The Adventures Of The Lone Ranger, Which Will Appear As A Regular Feature Of The Sunday Chicago Herald And Examiner-In Color. It's The Scoop Of The Year-The Lone Ranger With Tonto, His Indian Chief Friend, And With Silver, His Snow White Horse. Hi-Yo Silver!/© 1938 The Lone Ranger Inc." Poster has horizontal crease from original newspaper fold plus a very tiny hairline vertical crease. At the center is a 4" split on the natural crease but this barely shows. Margins have lt. normal tanning but only four very small tears, all under 1" and hardly showing. Image displays extremely clean w/just minor bkg. color loss on the far left and right center crease line. Rare and a piece of major importance in the development of the "Masked Idol Of Millions." First we've seen.
