Item Description
We believe this is from 1868 and the first use of these pig charms. Our Book III has an anti-Greeley example from 1872, HG-3042. However, we don't think this is its 1872 mate because the crisp, clear photo of Grant is quite youthful and one we've not seen used on other campaign items. He is in civilian dress with very bold part in his hair and a shock of hair jutting to the left of his forehead. The pig is held belly-up to the light and viewing its rear reveals the image and bold lettering below the photo "Grant/Our Next President." The three dimensional running pig is about .5x.5x1" long with a loop on its back. The piece is solid and likely pewter or better quality white metal. Issues for later candidates through McKinley and Bryan can be found either in white metal or brass. We feel this is the first of the series. Rare and Exc.
