Item Description
This exceptionally well made and designed rocket ship comes w/original letter correspondence between Ted Hake and Robert Lesser (noted collector and author of A Celebration Of Comic Art And Memorabilia). Model is 3x12x5.25" tall modeled after the Martian Police Ship although much larger in scale than the vintage balsa wood model. This model is made of a heavier wood w/high quality enamel gloss paint finish. On one side of the bulbous front section is a .75x.75" vintage label featuring image of Buck Rogers (a detail of this is shown in our photo). The letter on Hake's stationery is dated July 14, 1992. Ted writes Robert and asks him for information regarding this model which he recently obtained and was told at time of purchase it was formerly in Robert's collection. Robert's response to this is done in ink right on the letterhead itself and reads in full "Dear Ted, The Buck Rogers balsa wood models, that came in beautiful boxes, also had the sheet printed in color with all the rocket ships inside-on the other side of the sheet was a blueprint. I took the blueprint and had my model maker make it just for me. The sticker came from Rick Yager who drew the strip. I had to get him a whale's tooth (he carved them). It is the Buck Rogers logo. To be placed on the variety of merchandise. Rick claims it was a rare stamp. I glued it on. In summation the creation was my idea the model maker worked from the 1934 blueprint and did a swell job. Can I buy it back?? I designed and created it and would love to have it back. Hope you can accommodate me. Thanks. Bob." Obviously a deal was never struck, therefore we are offering the model which Ted has had in his collection since obtaining it. The two rear exhaust jets have star accent stickers, each w/some red color flakes. The large top accent fin has a .5" hairline neatly reglued at center. Other small scattered traces of wear and aging but remains a very impressive piece for display. VF. Unique. From the Hake collection.
