Item Description
4x7x2.5" deep box holds 1.5x2.5x6.25" tall statuette. From a set of four "All Plastic Marvel Family Statuettes" produced in 1946 which consisted of Captain Marvel, Marvel Jr., Mary Marvel and Marvel Bunny. Solid painted plastic figure includes his name on front of base and © Fawcett Publications Inc. on back. The C.C. Beck-designed box features great art including scene on one panel of Captain Marvel holding the Mary Marvel statue while one other panel depicts all four statuettes. This was purchased from an employee of Ker-Kal Plastics Inc. of Hastings, Neb. where the statuettes were originally produced. Upon the closing of the factory nearly 20 years ago and before the other inventory went to a landfill, he took a number of statuettes from the plant and since they were not for sale and the plant was closing, management asked him to remove the plant's name and price tag information from the boxes as they were not be resold in any retail store. This was done by making a shallow square cut only through the surface paper and then top layer of paper w/printing was lifted off. For the most part, the cuts were so shallow that cream-colored surface paper remains in the rectangular cut-out areas. This area blends w/surrounding areas much better than if top layer had been fully removed, only the darker gray cardboard under the paper label shows at a .25x1.5" area. Plant name removal covers an area of 2x2.25" on the left side flap. Price removal area is .5x1" off lower left corner of top side panel which features the "Marvel Family" name and lightning bolt design but this is just on the bkg. so art is not affected. Box remains tight and totally clean. Still displays Exc. The underside of statuette is missing the Ker-Kal decal. Top of base between his feet has a 1.5" hairline in the plastic. Not visible when viewed straight on. Still an Exc. example of this very fragile figure. See Hake's Premium Toy Guide 5th edition #CMR-73.
