Item Description
5.25x8" Wed., July 3, 1940 issue #54 of daily publication for the 1939-1940 World's Fair in New York. Headline reads "Kids Compete For Superman Awards." Opening paragraph notes that this was the first "Children's Day" since the closing of public schools in metropolitan N.Y. and that "Thousands Of Them Who Follow The Thrilling Adventures Of Superman In The Comic Strips Will Be On Hand To Participate In A Gigantic Parade Through The Grounds." Additional text notes that "Superman In Person" will be leading the parade along w/"Boys In Superman Costumes." During the parade 10,000 balloons were released "150 Of Which Contain Coupons Entitling The Finders To Superman Prizes." A contest held that day was for the selection of "America's Super-Boy And Super-Girl" w/judges including Buster Crabbe and Frank Buck. Parade also featured George McManus, creator of Bringing Up Father. Also the Brooklyn Dodgers provided "The Faculty At The First Mid-Week Baseball School In The Court Of Sport." Inside front has list of "Special Events" w/multiple Superman event listings. Additional inside panels include list of restaurants, continuous programs and upcoming events. Publication designed as a folder and opens to 15.5x16" featuring overhead map. St. wear but VF. An interesting and rather obscure Superman-related item.
