Item Description
Lot of 4 on thick artboard typically measuring between 11.5x20" and 13.5x22". All c. 1930s. First has penciled title "Another Simple Simon" and depicts World War I era German soldier fishing in bucket marked "Militarism" as thought balloon shows soldier standing on top of whale marked "World Conquest." Can of "Frightfulness" bait sits on table. Moderate corner tip wear and aging/dust soiling at margins. Fine. Second has penciled title "Waiting For The Dove" showing man with gun in boat marked "Senate Irreconcilables." Boat is on stormy seas and has large ship marked "Pacific Peace Treaty Ratification Ark" in bkg. Dust soiling and light handling wear. VF. Third piece has penciled title "Paddling His Own Canoe" and has stereotypical Chinaman sitting in submerged canoe marked "Chinese Affairs." Word balloon reads "No Helpy Needed!" Moderate aging at left and right margins, not affecting art. Scattered age spots and dust soiling. Moderate corner tip wear to bottom right-hand corner. VG/Fine. Last has penciled "The Landing Of The Pilgrims - Up To Date" title and shows crate of foreigners marked "Bootleg Immigration - New Mayflower Brand - 90% Kick." Crate is on is beach marked "Smuggler's Cove." Handling at margins with dust soiling and tape on reverse sticking out about .5" at top. Fine. All pen and ink.
