Item Description
5/8" gorgeous color depiction from "A Tale Of Jungle Imps By Felix Fiddle," McCay's first comic strip in 1903. McCay created 43 episodes with stories about pixies and the imagninary animals they meet. Original art was unknown until 2006 when a woman contacted the Ohio State University Cartoon Research Library, she presented curator Lucy Shelton Casswell with a battered box that had been stacked with others in the family business for decades. The museum acquired 5 examples that were exhibited Summer, 2006. Like the long-lost art, this enamel pin dates from the early 1900s and is finely crafted with a vertical reverse pin anchored at the top forming a "T" shape. We do not know the significance of the text "No. 1." This is the only vintage pin we've ever seen depicting any Winsor McCay character. Trivial surface wear under magnification. N. Mint, displaying Mint. A rare gem.
