McCay created 43 episodes with stories about pixies and the imagninary animals they meet. Original art was unknown until 2006 when a woman contacted the Ohio State University Cartoon Research Library, she presented curator Lucy Shelton Casswell with a battered box that had been stacked with others in the family business for decades. The museum acquired 5 examples that were exhibited Summer, 2006. Like the long-lost art, this enamel pin dates from the early 1900s and is finely crafted with a vertical reverse pin anchored at the top forming a "T" shape. We do not know the significance of the text "No. 1." This is the only vintage pin we've ever seen depicting any Winsor McCay character. Trivial surface wear under magnification. N.
