Item Description
Large and impressive 27x41" linen-mounted poster for the 1923 Pat Sullivan cartoon. Poster has "A Pat Sullivan Comic - M.J. Winkler Distributor, N.Y." text as well as creator O. (Otto) Messmer name. Poster features nice image of a frightened Felix walking between two anthropomorphic haunted trees in the dead of night. Cartoon deals with Felix attempting to eliminate a rival cat by tricking the rival's owner into throwing him into the river. Felix is then haunted by his guilt, appearing as a giant frog and other apparitions including the obvious haunted trees. Great graphics. As poster has been linen-mounted, there is some professional restoration along fold creases with some scattered touch-ups that blend nicely. To our knowledge, this is the earliest Felix one-sheet poster to survive as well as the only full color example (all others we've seen are duo-tone) of this poster. Rare.
