Item Description
14x22" poster, one of three in this auction, once owned by a 1960s SNCC member at the University of Alabama. Photo has photographer's name in small lettering and larger type for the Georgia headquarters address of Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee. Poster shows zone number rather than Zip Code so is likely c. 1962. SNCC began in 1960 with $800 grant from the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. The group organized citizens at segregated lunch counters, freedom rides and was active in 1963 march on Washington, Mississippi Freedom Summer and Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party. Poster is titled
"For Food...For Freedom." Couple very light vertical creases. No tears. Clean and Exc. First we've offered.
