Item Description
Large and correct heavy brass shell eagle over a die-cut brass heart with stickpin reverse featuring small loop below suspending octagonal tin frame to an overall impressive height of 3.5". This piece is listed as Hake #3200 and Sullivan/DeWitt BH1888-31. Both of those examples have a smaller eagle hanger which is likely also correct but we have also seen a second example with the larger hanger as on this piece. This is among the most graphic and desirable badges from the 1888 campaign. Ribbon-like designs to the side of each portrait read "For President Benj. Harrison, Ind." and "For Vice President Levi P. Morton, N.Y." while centered below is "Protection For Home Industries." The cardboard insert within the tin frame has slight wear largely just noticeable under magnification. It is extremely clean with strong gold color accenting the rwb/bw designs. VF and Scarce. Our last example in Auction #190 exceeded $2,000.
