Item Description
This is an early issue of the book that that would, with issue #35, eventually become known as “Classics Illustrated”. It has an incredible publishing history. Each issue featured an adaptation of a different great work of literature. The individual titles were each reprinted as many as 25 times each. These reprints would sometimes have different cover art. Finding the very first printing of each specific title in the series is a serious quest. The printing history is determined by the highest number on the reorder list (HRN). The lower the HRN number is, the closer the collector is to owning an original edition. This issue is the original edition of Victor Hugo’s Les Miserables. It was published in 1943 with a slick paper cover. It is considered edition 1A and the HRN number is 0. It is published by Gilberton. The book is CGC-certified VF/NM 9.0. According to the CGC census, this copy is tied with one other as the highest grade they have seen.
