Item Description
Doc Savage is one of the most memorable creations that came out of Pulps. Created by Henry W. Ralston, with help from his editor at Street and Smith, John L. Nanovic, the Man of Bronze first appeared in 1933. Created to capitalize on the unexpected success of the Shadow, Doc was the third pulp character to get his own magazine. Although he didn’t create him, the writer who came to be most identified with the success of Doc was Lester Dent. Very quickly, Doc crossed easily into radio and eventually made his debut in comics in 1940. Considered by many to be the perfect embodiment of what humans could achieve, Doc Savage also headed a team of experts who helped him with his missions. This combination of a highly individualistic hero who also fronted a group was a potent combination that helped keep Doc in the public eye for many years. The comic book, Doc Savage Comics, did not only feature the adventures of the Man of Bronze. It also showcased Captain Fury, Mark Mallory of West Point, The Whisper of West Point, Captain Death and Billy the Kid. In addition, there is an adaptation of Treasure Island. The pages are cream to off-white. The book is CGC-certified VF- 7.5. The title had a good run. It lasted 20 issues until seeing cancellation in 1943.
