Item Description
This title lasted six issues and every single one of them is listed in the 34th edition of The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide as “scarce.” This book, along with All American Comics, was the very first title published by Charlie Gaines when he went into partnership with what we now know as DC Comics. The title features original dialogue from the movies it adapted as well as stills from the actual picture. Some of the stories had drawn bodies with photos pasted on for heads. The cover image shows an attentive audience enjoying the timeless adventure Gunga Din. In addition to the movie titles, the cover lists the stars of each picture. The book also adapted Son of Frankenstein, (with Basil Rathbone, Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi), The Great Man Votes, and Fisherman’s Wharf. The book is so intent on duplicating a night at the movies that it also includes a Jackie Copper short, news, reels, comedies and more shorts. This is a tremendous example of publishers trying to determine exactly what the public wants to see during the early days of comic history. The art of comic great Harry Lampert is found on the interior. The pages are off-white. The book is CGC-certified VG 4.0.
