Item Description
Lot consists of 4x9.5" postally used envelope with Captain Midnight image and name in upper left corner. Postally canceled Nov. 18/1955. Back of envelope reads "We Of The Secret Squadron Drink Ovaltine Every Day!" Hand-written address/"Air Mail" notation. 6¢ Air Mail stamp. Envelope contains 8.5x11" hand-written letter on "Captain Midnight" letterhead. Letter is dated same date as postmark. Three-paragraph letter explains "I Am Certainly Sorry To Learn That Your Son's Secret Squadron Card Was Lost, But Am Gratified By His Enthusiasm." Letter goes on to explain a new Secret Squadron number has been issued to him with an enclosed new membership card. Letter concludes "Sincerely Yours, Captain Midnight." Letter is apparently written by a secretary/Ovaltine employee to give the impression that Captain Midnight had personally written this. Folded as issued. Edge wear/tanning. We have had typed letters on this stationery, but this is first hand-written we have seen. Overall Fine.
