Item Description
10.5x13.75" hardcover book "Being A Selection From Those Done For The Chicago Daily News." Book features several highly-detailed editorial cartoons by Frederick Richardson. Published by the Lakeside Press in 1899. This is the first edition of Richardson's first book. It contains work from his days at the Chicago Daily News newspaper published 1897-1898 as well as one previously unpublished cartoon "Grand Fourth Of July Celebration." Great content further enhanced by Richardson's attention to detail and accompanying verses by W.G. Jackson. Art is Winsor McCay-like with noted similarities with Alphonse Mucha's work. Cartoon dealing with Yellow Fever features Yellow Kid-like character with shirt reading "I'm De Yeller Kid, De Last Link In De Line Of Leering Lunacy. See?" Some pages have separated at spine with slight discoloration though all pages remain firmly intact. Bottom .5" margin on front cover shows aging. Corner tip wear. Fine/VF.
