Item Description
25x31.25", original Hal Foster art has been double-matted to 19.75x27". "Pit Of Doom" strip ran Nov. 3, 1935. 12-panel (counting title panel) with "The Viking Rabold" image deals with the Viking Rabold, Tarzan and Sigreda being forced by the cannibalistic Lion People to fight lions in makeshift arena. United Features Syndicate Inc. paste-over in second to last panel. Tarzan appears in two panels, though he does not fight lions. Instead, Rabold duels with lion in 5 panels. Pen and India ink. Art is signed in title panel "To Murray Harris - This Reminder Of My Past. Hal Foster" in black ink. Foster's signature in last panel. 6.5" crease to first panel. Art has scattered faint staining. Surface paper rub to "M" in "Murray" in inscription, the rest remains legible and Foster's signature is not affected. Fine overall. A classic strip featuring great action befitting of a Tarzan strip.
