Item numbers 1500-3431 in auction 182
Item Description
This is from a small series of Mickey and Minnie metal figures produced in the 1930s in Germany, some of which were designed as useful objects such as ashtrays, playing card counters and banks. This particular piece is 3.5x4x4" tall painted cast metal depicting Mickey comfortably resting in a chair. His hands are outstretched, legs crossed and his tail drapes around the back of the chair. As produced, has his name hand-painted on his pants and the word "Germany" on underside of chair. Pants also have raised Disney copyright lettering. Has moderate amount of small scattered paint flakes but remains structurally sound. Fine. These German figures are considered to be among the finest three-dimensional metal figures ever produced. Provenance of Philip Samuels collection.
