Item Description
This sculpture is from a numbered edition of 50 produced in 1968 and originally sold for $350 each. By Ernest Trova, noted contemporary sculptor as well as collector of Disneyana. Trova is best known for his "Falling Man" series of abstract figural sculpture. This piece has a 4" dia. and height of 3.5". Sterling silver w/embossed text and enameled metal Mickey figural appliqués. Has four segments w/repeated text around rims reading "Mickey Mouse/Empire Builder/1928-1968." On the eight sides are a total of 12 Mickey appliqués, each 1" tall, all depicting him in same running pose. On two of segments is just the diecut image of Mickey rather than having an appliqué. This combination of cut-out silhouettes and actual appliqué images makes for a striking design. At bottom of one segment is stamped-in edition number "28/50." Comes w/small black plastic base the sculpture sits atop and we believe as issued as this base is pictured w/sculpture on page 323 of Disneyana by Munsey. Sculpture is N. Mint. Provenance of Philip Samuels collection.
