Item Description
16.5x22.5" newspaper page with 10.5x16" advertisement area that ran in The Dallas Morning News on Sunday, Feb. 24, 1929. Text reads "A New Kind Of Comic Strips For News Readers Old And Young. A Marvelous Picture-Story Of America In 2429 A.D." Main image of ad shows Buck Rogers and Wilma Deering soaring through air, Buck clutching rocket pistol, sword on his hip. Artwork is different than art that appeared in the Buck Rogers strip, futuristic cityscape at bottom signed by artist Dick Calkins, the first artist to draw the Buck Rogers comic strip. Buck and Wilma image does not appear to be by Calkins. Brief blurb about strip reads "The Mongols, A Cruel Race Of Mercilous Supermen, Overwhelmed America With Their Un-Dreamed Of Weapons Of Scientific Destruction. The Surviving Americans Live A Harried Life In The Vast Forests That Grew Up Over Once Prosperous Cities. For Generations The Americans Have Awaited The Day When They Can Re-Claim Their Country. The Time Draws Near. Read This Magnificent Narrative Strip - Packed With Love, Adventure, Passion, Thrills Beginning Monday Exclusively In The Dallas News." Horizontal crease running through center as newspaper was folded, two 3-4" tears on either side with tape reinforcement on reverse of page. Page is aged to dark cream in color and slightly brittle. Left-hand side is uneven as separated from newspaper. Corner/margin chips, not affecting text or art images of Buck Rogers ad. Buck ad area remains clean and displays VG. Only example we've seen and possibly the only existant ad of its type.
