Item Description
12.5x16" double-sided frame containing matted picture of Grover Cleveland and 2-sided, hand-written letter in black ink. Letter is on "Executive Mansion, Washington" letterhead dated May 14, 1896 and reads "Dear Sir - The Fact That Such Silly Things As Is Contained In The Clipping You Sent Me Can Find A Place In Any Newspaper Indicates Use Of The Strangest Development Of The Insanity That Seems Just Now To Be Afflicting The American People. 'The American People Are Good People.' I Still Believe That Fully Though I Confess I Have Moments - Only Moments - Sometimes Of *illegible* Misgiving. I Am Praying Now That Purulent Infection May Pass Away Leaving Life And Hope Of Complete Recovery. In The Meantime The Brood Of Liars Must Have Their Carnival. Yours Sincerely - Grover Cleveland." Letter is addressed to L. Clark Davis, Esq. Cleveland's bold signature is on last page. Great quality letter containing Cleveland's easily discernable annoyance with public sentiment and the media in 1896. Letter is folded once vertically and once horizontally as mailed and shows light aging. Exc. Comes with Hake's COA.
