Item Description
7x9.25". 140 pages. ©1954. Published by the Iowa State College Press. Book chronicles Darling's (Ding) illustration of Hoover's public life from 1917 to 1932. 53 full page/captioned illustrations appear on right-hand side with corresponding date and text of the events/personalities represented in each illustration on the left. The book is divided into 4 parts representing Food Administrator, Cabinet Member, Candidate, President. An 8-page introduction by William W. Waymack of the Des Moines Register And Tribune explains the relationship of Darling with Hoover. Twelve pages by Darling detail "My Association With Herbert Hoover" in interesting and detailed length. Interesting subjects include Calvin Coolidge, the advent of radio, political bosses, the prohibition question, the events leading up to and including the Depression. Most, if not all, put a favorable spin to Hoover's situation. An interesting chronology of Hoover's public life and events that led up to his presidency and failure to be re-elected. An interesting, historical read. Dust jacket shows wear. Good. Cover and contents Exc.
