Item Description
Hake #22. 1.25" with slogan at bottom "Commerce And Industries." Bw photos at top above choice color scenes of industrial buildings at the right and farm lands at the left featuring wheat shocks and a farmer with horse-drawn wagon loaded with hay. Most of these we've seen are off-center to some degree. This one has a bit more of the gold rim showing along the bottom edge and none of the stars show along the top edge but this is very minor and barely noticeable. Usually the off-centering is to the left or right which detracts from the symmetry of the design but that is not the case with this example. The only other flaw is a near microscopic pinpoint shallow cello nick upper left of McKinley's head. This is just barely visible without magnification. All else is exceptionally bright and clean with extremely high gloss, deep color and no stain. Has the name of the maker W&H and the larger text relates to the jobber "The Mertz Button Co. Chicago, Ill." Among the best of the 1900 designs.
