9.75x12.25". 244 pages. ©1947 by the Pulitzer Publishing Co. St. Louis Dispatch editorial cartoonist D.R. Fitzpatrick. Illustrations span 1935 through 1947. Each full page illustration with caption and date below. Brief editorial note on each left-hand page. Each illustration chronicles the national and international issues of the day from The Great Depression and N.R.A. through the build-up of Hitler's power, the beginning of and to the end of WWII. This group of illustrations is best described in the forward by St. Louis Post-Dispatch Editor, editorial page Ralph Coghlan stating "Sometimes These Pictures Burn With Wit Or Irony; Others Have A Terrific Emotional Thrust; Still Others Hold A Civilized Balance Against Foolish Extremism." Inside cover is inked inscription and signature "For George E. Carvell, D.R. Fitzpatrick." Last page reads "Of This, The First And Limited Edition, There Have Been Printed Three Hundred Copies, This Being Number '44' (inked)." Light surface dust to fabric-covered hard binding.
