Item Description
2" tall stickpin holds .75" oval featuring dark blue enamel rim around burnt orange translucent enamel over image of galloping elephant holding a lumber board in its trunk. This same image was used on a popular Willkie cartoon button showing the text "Willkie 1940" on the board while the text on the button reads "On The Way To Washington." (See Hake #141). Here the design seems to appear in its original form as the reverse of the oval plate reads "Keystone Lumber Co. Pittsburgh" with very tiny mark of the maker "W&H Co. Newark, N.J." A rare advertising stickpin with interesting tie-in to the Willkie campaign. Essentially Mint.
