9.75x11.75" unpaginated hardcover. First edition printed by George Braziller in 1961. Title page has noted and beloved caricaturist Al Hirschfeld's self-portrait sketch done at time of the book's release. It is inscribed in blue ink "For Nettie - Old, Dear Friend. Affectionately Al Hirschfeld" and is dated Nov. 11/61. Extremely high quality book collects hundreds of Hirschfeld's signature caricatures of stars of the stage and Silver Screen. Some include Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, Benny Goodman, Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong, Al Jolson, Ed Wynne, Ray Bolger (as Scarecrow), Mae West (as Diamond Lil), Una O'Connor and Boris Karloff, Yul Brynner and Gertrude Lawrence in "The King And I," Jerry Lewis, Lillian Gish, Judy Garland, Marcel Marceau, Bette Davis, Danny Kaye, Japanese Kabuki, Carol Channing, Elsa Lanchester and many, many more.
