Item Description
5.5" tall wood composition figure was designed by legendary Superman artist Wayne Boring to promote Superman to DC Comics' distributors and retailers. 1942. This is fully-painted version which is much rarer than scarce brown and red version. Nicely detailed, painted as Superman appeared in comic books. This figure was also used for ashtrays of which 2 are known. Undetectable, professional ankle repairs, figure has no other repairs or restoration. Scattered paint wear with red showing through blue portions of costume has tiny 1/8" chip on back of base. Great example of this classic figure at a reasonable opening. Our previous example in Exc. condition in Auction #193 sold for $6,325.00. Only the 4th we've offered in our 41 years.
