Item Description
Lot of 3 for toy we believe was never put into production. 8.5x11" letter on Disney Character Merchandising Division letterhead with small bwr image of Mickey Mouse at top. Dated Oct. 13, 1966 with typed letter to Harry Kislevitz of Colorforms by Louis Lispi, Art Director. Text notes enclosure of art ideas, both of which are included in this lot. "Colorforms" memo sheet taped to bottom with inked "Shaped?" .5x3" tape residue stain at top, o/w Exc. Both pieces of original art are on paper with sizes about 12x16". Art for display card done in colored marker and pencil, lead pencil and paint. Features full figure image of Mary Poppins plus 2 young children using jump rope with text "A Full 8 Feet Long Walt Disney's Mary Poppins Jump Rope." Lower half of art is image of Mary Poppins' carpetbag with jump rope over top of it although handle designs are just white as final design had not been decided upon and each has inked notation "Handle Design?" Bottom of art features hand-done Colorforms logo and pencil notation reading "4 Color Display Card - Rope Blister Packed." Art is held in place by pair of staples at top margin to slightly larger sheet of construction paper that includes faint Mickey Mouse portrait ink stamp and Colorforms penciled notation. Art area on this piece measures 9x13". Second piece of art done in lead and colored pencil and features 3 different rope handle designs, each about 2x5". All 3 of the designs include pencil notations regarding production materials. First is figural handle and image of Mary Poppins which was to be plastic, other 2 are standard handles featuring different Mary Poppins images, 1 noted as "Full Color Litho With Clear Plastic Sleeve" while the other is "Full Color Metal Litho." All art is nicely detailed and Exc. Very interesting and nicely detailed lot. From the Colorforms Archives.
