Item Description
9.75x12.5" frame contains 6.25x7" painted cel with 4x5.5" image area showing duck, sort of a combination of Donald Duck and Gladstone Gander. Cel was given by Disney animator Sam Cobean to our consignor at age 8 in 1951. Cobean is more famous as a New Yorker Magazine cartoonist than for his work at Disney, but he did work on Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio and Fantasia. This exact duck image appears as un-named duck in Blair's 1947 book, who used animals closely resembling characters from Disney, MGM and Warner Bros. to illustrate his book showing principles of "Advanced Animation." Mat of cel has inked "To Clayton From 'Donald'." Printed bkg. of forest with "RR - MC" carved into tree with heart. Slight age tone on mat, cel is without cracks and essentially Mint. Unusual.
